The project designed by Mirosław Nizio and the team at Nizio Design International has been named one of the five best architectural realizations of 2024 in the prestigious POLITYKA Architectural Award.
The Interactive OKO Story and Animation Center in Bielsko-Biała is a contemporary space for culture and education and a prime example of narrative architecture that tells the story of Polish animation through form, rhythm and light.
The award-winning building serves as the new headquarters of the iconic Studio of Animated Films, the creators of beloved Polish characters such as Bolek and Lolek, Reksio or Baltazar Gąbka. Inspired by the motif of a film strip, the building’s minimalist architectural concrete form references both modernist aesthetics and cinematic symbolism. Its upper floor appears “suspended” above a fully glazed ground level, while an amphitheater-like urban plaza enhances the spatial experience.
This is yet another success for the project – OKO was also recognized by the Association of Polish Architects (SARP) in the “Cultural Building” category and won second place in the public vote accompanying POLITYKA Architectural Award.
We are grateful for this recognition and extend our congratulations to the winners and all the finalists!
