Our design for the Interactive OKO Story and Animation Center in Bielsko-Biała has received the Gold Medal in this year’s edition of The un Design Award!
Presented by the International Competition Association (ICA), The un Design Award honors the most innovative architectural achievements that blend creativity with a unique approach to space and user experience. The 2025 edition of the competition was held under the theme “The Self is the World,” emphasizing ambiguity, uniqueness, and boundless imagination in the creative process.
The new headquarters of the Studio of Animated Films is a minimalist architectural form that combines heritage and modernity. One of its defining features is a perforated architectural concrete façade that echoes the rhythm of a traditional film strip. Part of the building appears to hover above a glazed ground floor, creating a striking sense of levitation and a visual expansion of space.
The building’s interior has been visually integrated with a green, amphitheater-like public plaza, designed as a future urban oasis and place of relaxation for the city’s residents. Mirosław Nizio and the team at Nizio Design International were responsible not only for the architectural concept of the new building and site development but also for the comprehensive revitalization of the neo-Baroque Roth Villa, which forms part of the complex.
We thank the jury for this recognition and warmly congratulate all the laureates!
